According to research, home care is when

one provides professional support to help

individuals remain in their home comfortably.

Home care is provided for those who are unable

to care for themselves. This can be due to aging,

chronic illnesses, psychological illnesses, and or

physical limitations.

Studies show that 12 million Americans utilize

these services every year. It is a very unique

and special occupation. It takes very special

individuals to work in this environment.

To be in this workforce is beyond special

and a huge blessing. It enables you to focus

on others rather than yourself. It requires a lot

of trust as strangers welcome you into their

home.

Though it is a blessing, at times it can also be

a challenge. It is never easy to watch people

suffer mentally, physically or psychologically. It

can be sorrowful when the elderly share parts of

their lives with you that they regret. It can also

be sad when they retell you the same stories

because they have forgotten they have

already shared it.

No matter what client you have and however

many times they tell you a story, embrace it.

Accept it and listen. See it as both a privilege

and honor to be able to assist them. It is such

a large responsibility. Consider the fact that

you very well could be spending the last few

hours with them before they leave this world.

Make it special, rememberable and love them

for who they are.

Rather than see them for what they cannot do,

see them the way God sees them. See them as

one who provides wisdom, similar to a grandparent.

That is how I see them.

I think everyone at some point in their life

should be a home care provider. Even if it is

for one day. Humanity is so caught up with

'self.' We get caught up in our business, our

hurt, our trials. This hinders us from being able to

see others. Like a horse with blinders, we

cannot see anything on our left or right, only

what is in front of us.

Why not for once take off the blinders, step

out of our little bubble. Take the time to take

a look through someone else' lenses. See and

feel their hurt.

At the end of the day, this will not only aid

the client but help yourself as well. This also

builds character, character. Besides, as a

Christian, this is what being Jesus' hands and

feet is ought to look like.

He is the King of the universe and yet He

came down to us and served thousands

of people. Most of those people He

served were hurt, wounded and sick. If He

served, we should too.

You only get on life. Use it well and serve

others fervently and passionately.
