Bird's Eye View

Writer's picture: Simple thoughtsSimple thoughts

It was the perfect day. I had the

day off and nowhere to be.

The weather was astounding.

It was sunny with a blue sky. The

the temperature was mid the 70’s with

a gentle breeze.

I was cruising down the road. I had my driver

and passenger windows down. My left hand was

dangling out of the window. I felt the wind brush

in between my fingers. My stereos were blasting

my favorite tunes. My sunroof was down. I did

not have a care in the world.

As I continued down the road, I saw something

flying in the sky. As my eyes peered through the

sunroof I saw what it was. A beautiful hawk. I could

see his proud wings as he soared in the sky.

It was almost as if he had dominion over

the vast blue sky. This hawk had no fear.

Nothing or no one was looking down on him.

Nothing was soaring over him because

he was on top. He knew the sky inside

and out.

For a few seconds, I became jealous of

this hawk. I envied his freedom. I envied

how he soared in the sky without a care in the world.

I wanted to trade places with him. His freedom,

fearlessness, and poise attracted me.

I began to think to myself, that he has no bills

or taxes to pay. He doesn’t have to worry

about his debit card declining. He does not

have to worry about getting into a car accident.

He doesn’t have to worry about arriving to

Work on time. He doesn’t have to constantly

make decisions. He doesn’t have to carry the

The burden of his actions helping or hurting others.

He does not have a job title or a

degree that defines him. He does

not have to wonder if he will ever

get married. He does not have to

think about what he will wear

or eat tomorrow. He will never run

out of supplies or the right words

to say. For he does not have to say

anything at all.

He doesn’t wake up every day

asking himself what his purpose is.

He has nothing nor no one to live up to.

His days are full of exploring and travel. He

gets the first-class ticket. He never struggles

with his morals. He never worries about

hurting someone’s feelings. He does not have

to fight fear, stress, anxiety, or hurt. He lives

a simple life. He is utterly free and indebted

to no one.

Author's Note: I love being human! Yes, some days

will be harder than others but God is with us. Nature is

beautiful but God has made us set apart. Unlike animals

we have the gift of eternal life, relationships and a soul.

Acknowledge the things God has given to you! Live life

to the fullest. We can be free just like the hawk. -L. T.
